Prepares instruments and supplies and maintains a clean and safe environment. Ensures the presence of all instruments, equipment and supplies necessary for surgical procedure in accordance with doctors' preference and established standards. In conjunction with the circulating nurse, completes scrubbing and begins set up before the patient arrives in room, inspects all instrument trays to ensure they include the required items and prepares for procedures by arranging instruments, sutures and linen in proper order. Assists the surgeon as a scrubbed assistant according to prescribed standards. Passes instruments, sutures and sponges according to the doctor's request and in anticipation of needs, assists the circulating nurse in maintaining an accurate count of sponges, instruments and sharps and other articles ensuring that all are accounted for during the following procedures. Assists the physician with procedure as directed. Utilizes strict aseptic techniques in all appropriate situations and monitors the use of such by other personnel. Position Requirements: Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma. Completion of an O.R.T. program at an accredited college. Associates degree. Specify Degree(s): Surgical Technology Minimum Experience Required: One (1) to three (3) months of on-the-job experience in order to acquire a working knowledge of surgical procedures to acquire a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique as well as develop the skills necessary to properly coordinate instruments and supplies during operations.
